Description

Chinese Yixing-style zisha (purple clay) teapot modeled as a seated Budai, the "Laughing Buddha," his rotund belly forming the body of the pot, with a gently curved spout emerging from his side and a loop handle at back. The lid, formed as his head and shoulders, lifts away to reveal the interior, and the base bears an impressed Chinese seal mark. Figural teapots like this are a favorite among collectors of Chinese Yixing pottery, prized for their fine unglazed stoneware, smooth matte finish, and long tradition tied to Chinese tea culture, where the Laughing Buddha is a popular symbol of happiness and abundance.
