Lot 203: Maigon Daga Studio Pottery Cat, Signed Stone

Description

Signed studio pottery cat sculpture by Maigon Daga, a Latvian-born ceramic artist who trained at the Adelaide School of Art before settling in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he ran Daga Design Studio from 1970 until his passing in 2001. The seated cat figure is rendered with a rich, mottled brown and cream drip glaze over a stylized, streamlined form, mounted on Daga's signature natural-cut stone slab base, incised "Daga" on the underside. Daga is best known for exactly this type of small sculptural animal figure on a raw stone or granite plinth, a hallmark of his American period work, and pieces like this are actively collected by fans of mid-century studio art pottery. Measures approximately 4.25" H x 2.5" L x 2" W.

Condition:

Good vintage condition. Wear commensurate with age. Glaze is intact with expected small pitting/specking from the firing process (see photos). No chips or losses noted to the ceramic figure. Please review photos closely; we do our best to catch all flaws but small imperfections can be missed.
