Description

A beautifully polished freeform slab of petrified wood, showing clear, ancient wood grain and growth rings alongside what appears to be a fossilized knot or branch node, complete with tiny natural cavities. Bands of warm gold, ochre, and rust color the outer edges where minerals infiltrated the original wood during fossilization, while the interior retains soft grays and creams that echo the wood's original coloring. Petrified wood forms over millions of years as buried wood is gradually replaced, cell by cell, with silica-rich groundwater minerals, preserving the original organic structure in stone; the specific mineral content determines the final palette, which is part of what makes each piece so individual. Polished on both faces to bring out the color and grain, this specimen works equally well as a natural history display piece, a bookend or paperweight, or simply as a tactile object to be handled and admired. Good condition as a natural specimen. The polished surfaces are glossy and intact with no chips to the finished edges. Natural inclusions, cavities, and mineral variations, including the knot-like formation near center, are inherent to the stone and not damage. No cracks or repairs noted.
