This porcelain figurine captures a rough collie in classic show stance, coat rendered in rich sable and white with soft airbrushed shading along the back and dark tipping on the ears and muzzle, right down to individually painted whisker lines and alert dark eyes. The breed's full mane, feathered legs, and long tapering muzzle are all well articulated in the glossy glaze, giving the piece real presence and movement despite its stillness. The underside carries a gold foil label reading "Robert Simmons Pottery, Los Angeles" — Simmons was a mid-20th century Los Angeles ceramic studio known for its realistic dog figurines, part of the wave of California pottery makers who capitalized on the huge postwar popularity of purebred dog breeds, collies especially, following the success of the Lassie films and television series.
